boncenganAlthough it seems unimportant, when you’re riding a motorcycle with a passenger behind you, you must consider a few things for the sake of the rider and the passenger.

For the rider:

  • You have to know how to ride your motorcycle with a passenger well. For you who are new in riding motorcycle, much better avoiding ride with a passenger with you until you are ready and well – experienced enough.
  • For the advanced rider, you also have to note your motorcycle condition whether your motorcycle can be used for two persons. You have to check the availability of the passenger footsteps, sufficient tire air pressure, suspension ability and brake condition.
  • If you intend to beat another vehicle, make sure your motorcycle ability, area around you and your opportunity are supporting your intention. If one of those elements is not fulfilled, it’s better to delay that intention until you feel it’s safe enough.

Those points above are the obligation for you if you are riding a motorcycle with a passenger. The rider must consider his responsibility for his passenger safety. If it’s neglected, not only the passenger and the rider are in danger, but also the other rider around you.

For the passenger:

  • Move your body position closer to the rider. Follow the movement of the rider. If it tires you up, due to the concentration you need, there’s no other way except hug the rider’s waist tightly.
  • When there’s a sharp turn, NEVER against the direction of the slope, especially at high speed. It’s because when the turning direction shifted to the other direction, the passenger condition which against the slope may intrude the rider on controlling the motorcycle.
  • When you’re trapped in a traffic jam, NEVER trying to control the motorcycle movement by moving your body. Your movement will interfere the rider’s balance instead.

For both, the rider and the passenger:

  • Use a helmet, jacket, pants and shoes, when it feels like necessary, you can use gloves. If the journey is quite far, those equipments are becoming an obligation you must obey!
